The Weekend Package
OMMlite is a two day event based from a standing camp; you can park up and camp and 'run' each day without the need to carry your overnight gear.
Briefly, Saturday is a full day's tuition with a NAV4 Adventure tutor, and Sunday your chance to take part in the OMMlite. Friday and Saturday evening's are relaxed with informal sessions to help answer any questions you may have.
The event centre for September's OMMlite is the New Inn, near Pickering and the home of the Crompton Brewery. What better way to enjoy a weekend than a days walking and running and a few beers in the evening, all with the support of NAV4 and OMMlite.
A NAV4 tutor will guide and tutor you through the event and weekend generally. They will be on hand to help you get established on Friday evening, offer a full day's tuition based at the event centre side and out on the trails.
Programme
Friday evening - arrive and pitch your tent. Food is available to purchase on-site if you don't wish to cook. Indeed, you don't actually need to camp at all; come for the day if you wish and stay locally in your choice of accommodation.
The NAV4 tutors will welcome you to the event centre and advise you on anything you are unsure about. Doubtless, they'll enjoy a beer with you later.

Saturday - 9:00am - 3:00pm
An initial indoor session introducing the OMMlite special maps, and getting to grips with the nature of the event. We will outline the programme and day's agenda and answer all your questions, either upfront or as the day and weekend progresses.
The typical the day's session will cover:
- Map interpretation - symbols and scales
- Compass bearings - keeping it easy and simple - when do we use them
- Contours - contours are crucial - shapes and slopes
- Route choice and planning - linear and score courses
- Clothing and equipment - what to wear and carry and why
- Food and drink - the big hydration and nutrition questions - for during and after the running day.
Returning to the event centre, and the NAV4 basecamp, there will be a chance to grab a tea and cakes and talk through the session.
There will be a break in the programme for you to relax, eat an evening meal and enjoy the event centre retail area.

7:00pm - 9:00pm Workshop
This is an indoor session based at our basecamp, demonstrating the specialist lightweight gear suitable for the OMM and other fast moving mountain adventures. This is a chance to glean a lot of top tips and techniques that the more experienced competitors apply to maximise their score and performances.
Later Evening
The Bar is 'Open' - a social 'beer' is good rehydration fluid of course!Sunday Morning
Sunday is your chance to compete in the OMMlite 'for real', under your own steam, using the OMMlite map and an electronic timing chip. Your NAV4 tutor will help you prepare for the day, advising on route selection and strategy. They will also be out and about on the trails and competition area in case you need a bit of help or support.
Gear Required
Naturally, if you intend to camp you will need a tent, sleeping bag and mat. A small camping stove will be useful, but there is good food available at reasonable prices as well.
Just your running or walking shoes, and a few layers of outdoor clothing is all you need, a waterproof jacket and trousers will keep you dry in poor whether. We will provide compasses if you need one. You won't need any specialist mountain marathon gear - save your purchases until during or after the workshop.
Cost
The cost of a NAV4 Adventure / OMMlite workshop is just £125 per person.
You can come along solo, or as a pair or trio. You do not need to register with OMMlite.
